Efforts to form a new government and create a conducive political environment in Azad Kashmir have intensified. In this regard, the top leadership of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has increased contacts with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP). According to sources, after the elections scheduled to be held tomorrow, the electoral process will be considered complete, while by-elections will later be held on the remaining vacant seats. In the current situation, the PPP’s political and constitutional role has gained particular importance. This is mainly because the current Speaker of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly, Chaudhry Latif Akbar, is also performing the responsibilities of the Acting President of the state. Under the Constitution, the session of the newly elected Azad Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly is to be summoned by the President of the state. The Speaker will preside over the session and administer the oath to the newly elected members. Chaudhry Latif Akbar belongs to the Pakistan Peoples Party, which has increased the party’s importance in the process of summoning the new Assembly session, administering oaths to members, electing the Speaker, and subsequently forming the government.
